In a significant event, Iran's electronic payment network (Shetab) has been connected to Russia's Mir payment system. This connection, which was attended by high-ranking officials from both countries, will mark a major transformation in the international payments industry, particularly in the tourism sector.
From now on, Iranian tourists can easily withdraw rubles from ATMs in Russia using their bank cards. This will make traveling to Russia much easier and reduce concerns about covering travel expenses.
In the next phases, this facility will also be made available to Russian tourists in Iran. In the near future, Shetab cards will be accepted in Russian stores, which will significantly contribute to increasing trade and tourism between the two countries.
The Governor of the Central Bank stated: "This connection is a major step towards developing economic and tourism relations between Iran and Russia. By removing payment barriers, we will see an increase in tourist travel and the prosperity of businesses in both countries."
Benefits of Connecting Shetab to Mir for the Tourism Industry:
Now, Iranians can travel to Russia with their Iranian bank cards and no longer need to obtain other currencies. This makes travel for Iranians to Russia easier; in the same vein, we can soon expect Iranian tourism packages to Russia.
